Eligibility Criteria for MEXT Scholarship 2026 in Japan

To apply, candidates must:

• Have completed 16 years of education outside Japan (Bachelor’s equivalent), or expect to graduate before enrollment.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Demonstrate academic excellence with strong transcripts and recommendation.
• Be proficient in English (no Japanese required).
• Obtain consent from a prospective academic supervisor at the Institute of Science Tokyo.

Step 1: Contact a Supervisor and obtain consent (email/letter) by November 16, 2025.

Scholarship Benefits – MEXT & JASSO

The MEXT Scholarship covers almost all study and living expenses:

• Full tuition waiver (JPY 635,400 per year)
• Monthly stipend (approx. JPY 147,000 – subject to MEXT regulation)

• Enrollment fee waiver (JPY 282,000)
