Eligibility Criteria

Interested applicants for DAAD Scholarship 2021 at GEAS to study in Germany must fulfill the following eligibility criteria

  • Applicants should be an International (outside of Germany)
  • Students must have a higher-than – average master’s degree in either field studies (Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies) or Graduate School disciplines (Political Science, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Business , Economics, Law, History, Cultural Studies, Humanities) with an East Asian emphasis.
  • Should have the degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application
  • There is no work experience required
  • Students should be in good physical and medical health
  • Should be able to demonstrate the skills; Leadership, managing….,etc
  • Language Requirement: English is the language of communication. Successful candidates would also have a B2 or higher degree of language skills in an East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, or Korean).

With a regional emphasis on East Asia ( China, Japan, Korea), GEAS offers a social science-based, standardized 3-year PhD program. In order to examine the institutional climate of social , political , cultural and economic actors in the East Asian zone, GEAS doctoral dissertations are required. In the context of the three interconnected research lenses of its academic profile, all GEAS dissertation research will be carried out:

  • The Root and Shift of East Asian Institutions
  • The influence of institutions on processes related to globalization and transformation on the part of governments, bureaucracies, corporations, individual lifestyles, etc. in East Asia
  • Within and beyond its geographical borders, the interdependence of institutions in East Asia.

Scholarships Availability

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers two fellowships for foreign applicants through the DAAD-GSSP scheme. Through the cooperation of the Freie Universität and the Chinese Scholarship Council through the Center for International Cooperation (FU-CSC PhD Scholarship), two fellowships for PhD students with Chinese citizenship are available.

Applicants who do not obtain a scholarship may be accepted to the program if they apply for and gain additional support from other foundations and sponsors prior to or at the same time as the GEAS submission. The coordination office will help the applications and, if necessary, provide assistance.

Note that the candidates selected for a nomination for DAAD have to submit a subsequent application to the funding organization for a final decision. DAAD Research Grants Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship, which cover the all educational expenses in Germany for International students with Airfare, Monthly Stipend (1,200 euros for doctoral ), Health Insurance and all other required support.
