Fellowship Research in Japan Themes

Selected fellows will conduct independent or collaborative research with a geographical focus on ASEAN and/or Japan, in one or more of the following high-priority areas:

Free Trade Agreement (FTA)/EPA Utilization
Decarbonization and Carbon Markets
AI Governance & Workforce Development
Green Supply Chain & Circular Economy
Sustainable Tourism & Renewable Energy
Digital Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs

You must include at least one ASEAN country or Japan in your research scope.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

Hold ASEAN or Japanese nationality
Be either:
- Within 5 years of earning a PhD, OR
- Have 5–10 years of relevant work experience without a PhD
Submit a project involving ASEAN-Japan collaboration
Be able to complete the research by March 31, 2026
Apply as an individual or a team
