Academic Qualifications: Completion of all undergraduate degree components that qualify you for admission to a postgraduate program at a UK university is essential. Generally, this equates to achieving at least an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree in the UK. However, specific requirements may vary based on your chosen course and university.
Work Experience: Applicants must possess a minimum of two years of work experience, equivalent to approximately 2,800 hours. This professional background enhances your eligibility.
Offer Letter: It is imperative to secure an unconditional offer letter from a UK university by 15 July 2024. This demonstrates your commitment to academic excellence.
Commitment to Return: Successful applicants are required to return to their country of citizenship for a minimum period of two years upon completion of their award. This commitment ensures the skills and knowledge acquired benefit their home countries.

Refugee Status: Hold refugee status in a country that is not eligible for Chevening Scholarships. However, if you are a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country and hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country, you remain eligible for a scholarship.
Government Affiliation: Are currently employed, were formerly employed, or have close familial ties* with an employee of various government entities. This includes His Majesty’s Government, including but not limited to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, all British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade, and the UKVI.

Previous UK Government-Funded Scholarship: Have previously pursued studies in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.
It’s important to note that having a master’s degree does not disqualify you from applying for a Chevening Award to pursue a second master’s degree in the UK. However, you must provide a clear rationale for how this additional degree aligns with your career plan to drive positive change in your home country.
English Language Requirement (Chevening Scholarship 2024)
In 2024, the Chevening Scholarship program has specific language requirements for applicants. Candidates are not required to meet a separate English language proficiency requirement, as the Chevening English language requirement was removed in 2020.
However, candidates must still fulfill all the requirements set by their chosen UK universities. This includes securing an unconditional offer of admission from one of their three selected courses. While Chevening no longer imposes a specific language test, universities may have their own language requirements, such as IELTS or TOEFL scores, for admission. Therefore, it is crucial for applicants to check and meet the language requirements of their chosen universities.
This change reflects Chevening’s commitment to attracting a diverse range of talented individuals from around the world and providing equal opportunities to all, irrespective of their English language proficiency at the application stage. Applicants are encouraged to focus on meeting the admission criteria of their preferred universities and securing unconditional offers to be eligible for the Chevening Scholarship in 2024.
