Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the ADB fully funded Scholarship in Japan, interested students must meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality: Be a citizen of an ADB borrowing member country and Japanese ODA scholarship-eligible country.
  • Dual Citizenship: Do not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Admission: Have gained admission to an approved master’s course at a Designated Institution.
  • Academic Background: Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.
  • Work Experience: Have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application. Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills is required for pursuing studies.
  • Age: Be no more than 35 years old at the time of application, unless waived in exceptional cases with the endorsement of the Government of Japan.
  • Health: Be in good health.
  • Return Commitment: Agree to return and work in their home country for at least two (2) years after completing studies to contribute to its development.
  • Family Connection: Not be a close relative (defined as spouse, parent, sibling, child, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew) of ADB officials.
  • Employment: Not be staff of ADB-JSP Designated Institutions and not be living or working in a country other than their home country.
  • Current Enrollment: Not be already enrolled in graduate degree programs.
  • Language Requirement: Language requirements vary depending on the country and university where you are applying. For Japanese Language Courses, you should have Japanese Language proof, and for English-taught programs, you must submit any English Fluency Certificate such as English Proficiency, IELTS, or TOEFL.
