Eligibility Criteria

Interested Applicants for the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarships 2023 University Recommended for International Students for their higher studies, must fulfill the following eligibility criteria before application;

• Eligible Countries: International applicants are eligible.
• Students must have at least an undergraduate/bachelor degree (16-year education) or equivalent in the relevant field at the time of Master Degrees applications.
• Applicants must have bachelor and Master degrees or transcripts (total 18 years of education) or equivalent in the relevant field at the time of PhD applications.
• Must have at least 2.3 grade out of 3.0 scale in highest or latest education
• Students must hold their degrees/transcripts/mark sheet
• Age Limit: Must have been born in or after 2 April 1987 (in short under 35 years’ old)
• Applicants must be in good physical and medical health

Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet one of the language requirements in either English or in Japanese as described below:

  • Holds an English proficiency test score equivalent to B2 or above on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale (e.g. TOEFL iBT 72 or above, IELTS 5.5 or above).
