Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: All nationalities are eligible to apply for admission and Scholarship in Korea at SNU University except for Korean

For Undergraduate

  • Applicants must have graduated from high school or completed a curriculum equivalent to high school education. This criterion ensures that applicants possess the necessary educational background for admission to SNU.
  • International students who have graduated from high school in foreign countries are eligible for admission if they meet the academic qualifications specified by SNU. The academic qualifications must be met by March 31, 2024, to be considered for admission.
  • SNU does not accept school qualification exams such as GED, homeschooling, or cyber learning as meeting the eligibility criteria. Applicants must have completed a recognized high school education or its equivalent.
  • In cases where applicants have taken online classes at school due to COVID-19, they must submit an explanatory statement along with documentary evidence to demonstrate their qualifications. SNU acknowledges the impact of the pandemic on education and considers the circumstances of applicants.
  • Only applicants from government-approved high schools are eligible for admission. This requirement ensures that applicants have received an education from recognized institutions that meet the required standards.
  • Applicants attending high schools in Korea, regardless of the location of the high school, are eligible for admission to SNU. This includes both domestic and international students studying in Korean high schools.

For Master’s and PhD

Level of Education (application)

  • Master’s / Combined Master’s & Doctoral Programs: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized institution. This ensures that applicants have completed the necessary educational background for entry into the master’s or combined master’s and doctoral programs
  • For admission to doctoral programs, applicants must have a master’s degree or higher. This requirement demonstrates the need for advanced academic preparation and research experience for doctoral-level studies.
  • Non-Conventional Education System: Applicants who obtained higher education credentials or certificates through non-conventional education systems are not eligible to apply. These non-conventional credentials include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Bachelor’s Degree Examination for Self-Education (in Korea) or other qualification/degree equivalency exams
    • Home schooling and/or cyber schooling
  • COVID-19 Impact: Applicants who were required to take courses online/remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible to apply if they provide an Explanatory Statement along with official evidence. SNU acknowledges the exceptional circumstances and considers the impact of the pandemic on education.
  • Degree Completion by February 2024: Applicants who are expected to complete their courses by February 29, 2024, and will have their degree awarded in March 2024 are also eligible to apply. This allows applicants in the final stages of their academic programs to apply for admission to SNU.
