The CineSpace film competition allows filmmakers worldwide to share their works inspired by and incorporating NASA imagery. At the crossroads of art and science, the competition encourages curiosity and fosters innovative partnerships. Actual NASA footage from 60 years of space exploration will be judged on imagination, innovation, and attention to detail in submissions. There is no good chance for short film competition and career opportunities in the film and arts.
In addition to the Best Educational Film on Space and Science and the Film that best depicts unity and inclusion in science, this year’s special judging categories include Best Educational Film on Space and Science and the Film that best depicts unity and inclusion in science. NASA and the Houston Cinema Arts Society collaborated on CineSpace. In November 2021, the Houston Cinema Arts Festival will screen the best films. NASA Short Film Competition.
CineSpace is a partnership between NASA and the Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS) that allows filmmakers from worldwide to share their works inspired by and using real NASA imagery through a short film competition called “CineSpace.” The winners are announced and all finalists are screened at the annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival in November.

Eligibility Criteria
Only natural persons who are at least 18 years old at the time of the registration are eligible to participate in the Screenings and Competition (hereafter “Competition”). Filmmakers under the age of 18 may have their parents or guardians apply on their behalf.

Film Genres
Filmmakers of all levels of experience from all over the world are encouraged to apply for their work. Narrative, documentary, satire, drama, animation, experimental, and other genres are all welcome in the competition. Tongal, a content development site, will receive the films. Entries must be under 10 minutes long and contain at least 10% NASA imagery publicly accessible. Finalists are chosen from the entries and judged by Oscar® nominee Richard Linklater, who awards first, second, and third place prizes.

- All works in a language other than English should be accompanied by English subtitles.
- There is no charge to apply to CineSpace, and applicants are allowed to submit several original works.
- NASA video imagery must account for at least 10% (based on cumulative running time) of all submissions.
